The Belgian Association for Neuro-Oncology (BANO) prize 2017

Our efforts to create a patient-derived cell line collection of brain tumors have been recognised by the Belgian Association for Neuro-Oncology (BANO) with the first prize of the Belgian Brain Tumor Support (BBTS) 2017

Friday December 1, it was officially handed over to Dena and Veerle by Prof. Steven De Vleeschouwer at the BANO2017 event in Terhulpen, Belgium.

Congratulations to the entire LPCM team!

iGEM Giant Jamboree - Best New Application Track

Pieter-Jan, one of our Master students, took the initiative with three of his friends for the formation of the iGEM team 2017.

In November, exactly one year after the start of their research project, they received the award for best New Application track on the Giant Jamboree in Boston,USA.

Inspired by the human heart rhythm, they built an electrophysiological oscillator, which they designed from eukaryotic cells. More information about the medical and biotechnological applications that could follow from this technology can be found on their iGEM page.

Welcoming new team members

Since August, Pieter-Jan, a Master student from the faculty of Bio-engineering, has joined our team to do his Master thesis.

On Monday October 2nd, Dena and Veerle will be officially joining the team as the first two PhD students of the lab - welcome to both of them!

We also welcome Marleen and Evelyne, who will join our team until the end of the year. Marleen will be helping in maintaining our patient-derived cultures, while Evelyne will do research as a student-researcher.
